Estamos listos! Nos levantamos en Hotel Punta Leona para dar inicio al segundo día del Claro Skimfest por SkimCR Eventos el domingo, con grandes expectativas de ser un día lleno de emoción y competencia sana.
Las noticias del día anterior nos indicaban que el oleaje iba a estar mucho más grande y con esto nos aferramos para traer al público un mucho mejor espectáculo. Los premios estaban listos, muchos con la ayuda de ZapSkimboards, y Let’s Party!, además de la tabla patrocinada por ExileSkimboards para el ganador de la categoría Intermedio, un incentivo increíble para aquellos participantes con ganas de seguir mejorando día a día en el deporte!
El clima estuvo realmente increíble, ni una sola señal de lluvia en el horizonte. Los heats comenzaron con principiantes desde la 1:30, ya entrando a semifinales. La marea baja, pero con expectativas de crecer mucho más para los últimos heats, y con la señal, la primera tabla cayó en la arena!
Así quedaron las llaves de los principiantes ese día, que a pesar de que las olas no tenían muchísimo tamaño, todos los competidores dieron todo en la arena y pelearon por ese título. Theo Magnat se quedó con el primer lugar del podio, Carlos Quirós con el segundo, y Jimmy Bolaños con el tercero! Todos los que participaron tienen enorme potencial y esperamos verlos el próximo año peleando por el intermedio!
La tercer y cuarta ronda de Intermedios estuvo muy complicada, dado que eran muchos competidores en un mismo heat para prevenir que el tiempo y el sol no nos dejaran terminar con el evento como se tenía planeado. Las olas empezaron a crecer y tomar mejor forma mientras transcurría el día y los heats continuaban. Así quedaron las llaves del heat intermedio, con los ganadores Julien Houbre en primer lugar, que se llevó la tabla Exile junto con su trofeo por UCO BalanceBoards, Tono Meza de segundo lugar, dando la pelea no sólo en intermedio pero también en Open, y Marco Cubillo en el tercer puesto.
La categoría open era fue la cereza del pastel, con los competidores internacionales Max Smetts y Gerardo Valencia de Zap Skimboards y Alex Bevard de Wavezone Skimboards, la competencia realmente tornó a ser una de mucha emoción contra la calidad increíble de ticos que dieron una pelea impresionante. Nuevamente vimos cómo cada uno de ellos sumaba los puntos para entrar en las semifinales con aéreos, backflips y hasta entrando en pequeños tubos. Kelmer Sandoval nuevamente llegó a la final, pero esta vez, contra Gerardo Valencia, el Mexicano actualmente patrocinado por Zap. El año pasado, la final fue entre Kelmer y Jonathan Howell, en la cual Kelmer impresionó a los jueces con su Superman Invertido. Este año, fue el Gerardo el que ganó la batalla, dando la cara por su país y no decepcionando a ninguno de los aficionados al deporte y mucho menos a los patrocinadores. Kelmer y Javier Majano subieron con él al podio, llevándose los aplausos del público por dar tan buena pelea.

We’re ready!
We woke up at Hotel Punta Leona, to give way to the second day of the Claro SkimFest by SkimCR Eventos this past Sunday, with the great expectation of it being a day of full excitement and healthy competition.
The weather was amazing, not even a single drop of rain, nor a cloud in the horizon could possibly ruin this day. The heats started with the beginner Class at about 1:30 pm, already jumping to semifinals. The swell was low, but even so the news reported that waves were to get bigger by the end of the day and hopefully at the last heats. And so, with the announcement, the first board hit the sand!
These were the keys to the beginner Class that day, that even by the small size of the waves, the competitors gave their best shot and fought for victory. Theo Magnat stood at the podium in first place, with Carlos Quirós at the second, and Jimmy Bolaños with the third! Every participant has enormous potential and we really do hope to see them next year fighting for the Intermediate podium!
The Third and Fourth round of Intermediate was very complicated in the sense that there were many of us competitors on the same heats, due to the fact that we were also battling against time and the sun coming down before the event ended. Waves started to get a little bit bigger and with better shape on the sets throughout the day as the heats moved on. This is how the keys set for the Intermediate Class, with Julien Houbre on first place, who was given an Exile Board with his UCO BalanceBoard Trophy, Tono Meza on the second place, giving his all not only at the Intermediate Class but also in the Open one, and Marco Cubillo with the third on the podium.
The Open Category was the icing on the cake, with the International Competitors: Max Smetts and Gerardo Valencia from Zap Skimboards and Alex Bevard of Wavezone Skimboards, the competition was one filled with full emotion against the Tico quality who fought for their country. Once again, we saw how each one of them summed up points to get into the semifinals with aereals, backflips, and even small in and out barrels. Kelmer, like last year, got to finals once again, this time against Gerardo Valencia, the Mexican presently sponsored by Zap Skimboards. Last year the final heat was Kelmer fighting against Jonathan Howell, in which Kelmer impressed the judges with an Inverted Superman. This year Gerardo was the one who won the battle, giving his all for his country and not disappointing the sport fans nor his sponsors. Kelmer and Javier Majano also got to the podium, in second and third respectively, get the applauds and cheers from the public!
