It’s already been two months since I arrived to Canada, an experience I never thought possible until a while ago when I decided to simply buy my ticket and come here.

This is my first time living somewhere different than my home country, and has been a beautiful and growing involvement. You can read a little bit more of when I started my Journey here.
My parents came to visit a couple of weeks back and we decided to travel to Alberta, but I think that story is for another time. Right now, I’m going to tell of what has happened in my stay here for the past month.
I can’t say it has been easy, but actually, I can say I’ve grown and understood a lot about being alone, about living with myself and strangers (yes, now I have roommates). For the most part, I’ve wanted to find a job that is relevant to what I do; photography, video, social media… But that hasn’t been the case for now. Sending emails back and forth, resumes, cover letters… It takes a lot of time to be out there and updating the email page to see if something comes up makes me anxious!
Luckily, I’ve done some portrait photography while here. Some have only been for the portfolio, like the ones you can find here, and some have actually been for work, like these. Still, I don’t think that’s enough and I’m still pushing myself to be out there. I even made a Craigslist post with my information about what I do to try and sell (would appreciate if you could share).
Living a life in a new country is hard, I can’t sell you something that is not true. It’s all about starting again, meeting new people, getting to know the comes and goes of the city, getting a place (hopefully with people that you can get along with), etc. But what I CAN tell you, is that it’s really exhilarating! Every day you wake up to a new possibility; you are the creator of your new day and everything always looks and feels new, and that’s one of the things I love the most. Fortunately, my roommates are amazing people and I got a place to stay now, renting, obviously, but at a relatively (very) good price.
About work… Well, I’m starting a new job at a mountain gear store at Cypress Mountain. There, I hope I can meet new people, create contacts and also snowboard as much as possible given that I am handed a Cypress mountain ski pass for the season for free! Now I just got to get a snowboard and boots! I also signed a contract with a representative agent that will help me out with photography and will also get me background actor gigs. I’m still waiting for that but I think it’s a good opportunity,
I will not stop, either way, to pursue my dream and do photography gigs here and there. I will get my name out there and try, and try again.

Ya son 2 meses desde que llegué a Canadá, una experiencia que nunca creí posible hasta hace unos meses que decidí comprar mi tiquete y venirme para acá. Esta es la primera vez que vivo en otro país más allá de mi país natal y ha sido una experiencia única y que me ha hecho crecer de una manera exponencial. Pueden leer cómo empezó mi viaje en esta otra publicación.
Mis padres vinieron a visitarme hace unas semanas y nos fuimos para Alberta, pero creo que esa es una historia para otro momento. Ahorita, voy a comentarles cómo ha sido mi vida en estos meses y de lo que ha sucedido en este momento.
No puedo decir que ha sido fácil, pero realmente sí podría decirles que he crecido y entendido mucho acerca de la vida estando sólo, viviendo con extraños (sí, ahora tengo compañeros de casa ´rommates´). En su mayoría, he querido encontrar un trabajo que vaya acorde a lo que yo hago; fotografía, video, redes sociales… Pero ese no ha sido el caso por el momento. Enviar correos, currículums, cartas de presentación… Todo eso toma muchísimo tiempo y dedicación, y estar refrescando el correo cada 10 minutos para ver si tengo alguna conversación pendiente me pone muy ansioso.
Por suerte, sí he podido hacer algunos trabajos de fotografía de retratos mientras acá. Algunos han sido sólo para el portafolio, como algunos acá, pero otros sí han sido de trabajo, como estos. De todas maneras, no creo que por ahora sea suficiente y me seguiré empujando para estar ahí, promocionándome y vendiéndome. Incluso hice un anuncio en Craigslist con la información de lo que hago para vender mis servicios (sería increíble si lo compartieras).
Vivir en un país distinto es difícil, no puedo venderte la idea de que es una fantasía y es fácil, porque no es cierto. Todo está en empezar de nuevo, conocer personas nuevas, aprender sobre la ciudad, conseguir un lugar (ojalá con personas que puedas llevarte bien), etc. Además, conseguir un trabajo se trata de realmente proponérselo, no de quedarse sentado esperando a que llegue. ¡Pero lo que SÍ puedo decirles es que es realmente emocionante! Todos los días comienzan con una nueva posibilidad; vos eres el creador de tu nuevo día y todo siempre se siente y se ve nuevo, y creo que esa es una de las cosas que más amo. Afortunada mente, mis compañeros de casa son personas increíbles y con ellos logré conseguir el cuarto donde ahora rento, a un precio realmente cómodo en comparación.
Sobre el trabajo… Bueno, a mediados de noviembre comienzo un trabajo en Cypress Mountain, en una tienda de equipo de Ski. Ahí, espero conocer nuevas personas, crear contactos y también hacer snowboard tanto como sea posible ¡ya que me dan el pase de la temporada gratis! Ahora sólo necesito conseguir una tabla y botas. También firmé un contrato con una agencia que representa fotógrafos y actores, la cual espero que me consiga alguno que otro trabajo en dónde me pueda mover en el medio del arte. Sigo esperando, pero creo que a futuro puede ser una buena oportunidad.
Nunca me voy a detener, de cualquier manera, a perseguir mi sueño y seguir haciendo alguno que otro trabajo de fotografía. Voy a posicionar mi nombre allá afuera e intentar hasta que ya no se pueda.
